Chinese texts (hanzi) appear in a contextual space
which is inherently related to time. Texts can be visualized
through the use of different perspectives of space, while reading
is a temporal experience. This project aims to explore the
relationship between text and people’s understanding of
textual content (reading experience).
Spatial Poetics is a conceptual exploration of classical Chinese
poetry visually expressed in two-, three- and four-dimensional
space, as well as the effects of different variables on the reading
experience: scale, proportions, distance, viewing positions etc.,
while aiming to present to viewers the possibilities of visually
representing Chinese texts.
